2025 Salzburg Global Weekend: Centering Africa

A quarter of the way through the 21st century, our 2025 Salzburg Global Weekend is dedicated to Centering Africa. At a time of increasingly urgent global challenges, from economic transformation to climate change, and to the resilience of democratic systems and the rules-based international order. This special event underscores the vital and dynamic role of the African continent in influencing global development. With Africa standing as a potential beacon of youth, opportunity, and innovation in an era when many regions grapple with aging populations and  economic stagnation, our 2025 Salzburg Global Weekend offers a platform to explore pathways to peace, prosperity, and sustainability rooted in African visions for the future.

This year’s Salzburg Global Weekend is dedicated to Centering Africa. From June 20 to 23, Salzburg Global dives into the major trends shaping the coming decades of global development, with a particular focus on the African continent’s pivotal role. At a time of increasing concern about the future of peace, security, and economic opportunity, as well as heightened geopolitical fragmentation and competition, our 2025 Salzburg Global Weekend underscores the importance of African voices, ideas, and innovations. This event offers a platform that explores pathways to peace, prosperity, and rooted in African visions for the future. 

Featuring a diverse group of speakers and Salzburg Global Fellows, the Weekend program includes a series of discussions and special events that highlight the African continent’s unmatched potential for transformation and its role in setting a new vision that more fully represents the ideas and aspirations of the world’s youngest continent. For the first time, we conclude the celebrations with an “Open House” Program on Sunday, June 22, 2025. The Open House will include a series of talks, readings, films, concerts, and culinary delights that showcase our annual spotlight, Centering Africa, to Salzburg Global’s entire network of Fellows, partners, friends, and staff around the world.
