Philanthropic generosity was vital to Salzburg Global's creation and remains vital to our future.
To support our first year activities, we received $8,000 from the Harvard Student Association. A fundraising lecture by Bruno Walter and concert by folk singer Pete Seeger also helped pay the first-year bills.
The generosity didn't stop there. American students recruited as faculty assistants were each asked to bring a 10-pound sack of flour!
A few years later, a young Marcel Marceau, who came to Salzburg Global as a Fellow, held 10 free performances in the city to raise money.
Grants from the Rockfeller Foundation and the Commonwealth Fund helped support Salzburg Global's program in subsequent years.
As the program grew to become year-round and global, grants from foundations and corporations and partnerships with universities and international organizations provided a measure of stability.
A small endowment was established with leadership gifts from the Japan Shipbuilding Industry Foundation, now called the Nippon Foundation, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. But individual contributions have been and remain a cornerstone of Salzburg Global's success.
Thank you for your support and dedication. Please explore the different ways you can support Salzburg Global below.
