The Salzburg Statement on Collective Action for Education Equity Launch

In December 2024 an international group of 55 educators, policymakers, and researchers met in Salzburg for a program looking at the Future of Teaching. One of the themes explored in the program focused on collective action and teacher leadership as levers for equitable education reform. This statement reflects a summary of their shared aspirations, lessons learned from decades of persistent global challenges, and the mindset shifts necessary for sustainable transformation in education systems worldwide.

The statement aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), and contributes to SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By advancing collective leadership and multi-stakeholder collaboration, we work towards ensuring inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all (Target 4.1), increasing teacher support and professional development (Target 4.c), and strengthening education systems through community-driven action (Target 4.5).

100 AI Champions

We are looking to build a network of approximately 100 teachers, at different stages in their careers, working in K-12, Special Education Needs, or Technical-Vocational Education, from many different subjects, from around the world, who are already using AI as part of their daily work.  Working towards this balance may affect who we accept into the network.  The application takes about ten minutes to complete. The working language of the network will be English, at least in its initial incarnation.

Purpose and approach: the broad purpose of the network is to share good and effective practice around the use of AI in teaching, to learn about different effective approaches, and ultimately to think about how AI can help teachers with some of the major challenges facing the profession. We are committed to co-creating and refining this purpose with the members of the network.

The initial invitation is for monthly online meetings between September and December 2025.  We will use the first two of these meetings to co-design the rest of the year and agree on potential outcomes and a possible longer-term future for the network.  The first two meetings will take place on the first Wednesday of the month (3 September, 1 October) and last for 90 minutes - the exact time will be decided on when we know the different time zones network members are joining from.
