This information only pertains to Salzburg Global Internships in Salzburg.
What is the Timeline for the Internship Program application call in Salzburg?
The last quarter of each year.
Can I Apply if I’m Yet To Graduate?
Undergraduates pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a demonstrable interest in one of Salzburg Global’s program areas may apply for either the Program or the Development Internship.
The Communications and Library Internships are only open to applicants with a completed undergraduate or graduate degree in relevant fields.
Do I Need To Speak German To Take Part in the Internship Program?
No. English is the working language of Salzburg Global. Therefore, interns are not required to speak German.
However, if you are a German speaker or looking to practice your German, there will be plenty of opportunities.
Do I Receive Payment for This Internship?
While internships in Salzburg are unpaid, Salzburg Global provides interns with compensation in the form of:
- Room and board at Schloss Leopoldskron
- Travel to and from Salzburg
- Insurance
- Visa processing assistance
Please note that visa costs are incurred by the intern, not by Salzburg Global.
Can the Internship Period Be Extended?
No. Under Austrian labor law and visa regulations, the maximum duration for an internship is 90 days.
Do I Need a Visa To Intern in Salzburg?
This depends on your nationality. If you are an EU citizen, you will not need a visa. If you are not, you will need a visa for your internship in Austria. Should you be offered an internship, we will contact you regarding the visa application process and how Salzburg Global will support you through it.
Does Salzburg Global Provide Any Accommodation?
Yes. Interns are housed in the Meierhof, on the premises of Schloss Leopoldskron.
They will incur no lodging fees. There will, however, be a € 100 security deposit, which will be returned at the end of the internship provided no damage has been caused to the accommodation.
Am I Insured During My Internship?
Interns are covered by an accident and health insurance policy purchased by Salzburg Global for the duration of their internship. This policy will not cover pre-existing conditions, dental expenses, or eyeglasses replacement.
Personal possessions, such as laptops and cameras, must be covered by the intern’s own travel insurance.
What Would an Average Day/Week Schedule Look Like During the Internship?
An average day or week schedule will vary depending on the internship (Communications, Library, Development, or Program).
It also depends on the number of sessions during the internship and whether any occur during the week.
A typical day starts at 09:00 and finishes at 17:00, with a one-hour lunch break with colleagues.
