PPNVE Cohort 4: Network Meeting 2

These knowledge development sessions will include presentations from a diverse array of thought leaders and the resulting discussion with Fellows will focus on the critical importance of diverse views and experiences in public policy. Capacity development and skills-building sessions will support Fellows with reflecting on their personal and professional leadership goals.

This session was titled, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Why the Threat? In worlds of increasing polarisation and entrenched binaries, DEI has come under increasing attack. Once seen as the soft edge of social justice work and adopted by corporates through easy wins of gender-neutral toilets, accusations of ‘wokery’ now shut down equity initiatives. This session considered the normalisation of injustices, the brazen resurgence of Othering, and growing societal gulfs. It invited participants to reflect on where we witness discrimination and harms, and looks towards community and movement building as key ingredients in policy making.
