Our History

We began as the Salzburg Seminar in American Civilization, with our first session occurring during the summer of 1947.

Conducted under the auspices of the Harvard Student Council and International Student Service, we brought together 112 young European and American scholars at Schloss Leopoldskron for six weeks.

The Salzburg Method

We host small, intimate groups of people who are genuinely different from one another. Our sessions provoke real discussion and allow space to explore the gray areas where new, better possibilities lie.

We call this approach The Salzburg Method – a set of seven principles that we have tried, tested, and refined over 75 years of convening.

Our Partners

We work with organisations across sectors worldwide who enable us to continue our work in areas of strategic concern and develop our programs.

This assistance includes endowments and scholarships that supports the diversity of participants.

Support Our Work

As a nonprofit organization, we rely on your generosity and support to gather open-minded leaders for breakthrough conversations.

Donations, no matter the size, help us create space for dialogue that overcomes barriers and opens up a world of better possibilities.
