Whitney Fry

Founder, Flame Tree Story; Global Health and Storytelling Practitioner, USA

Whitney Fry is the founder of Flame Tree Story, a facilitation practice that designs story-driven experiences to spark empathy, strengthen communities and organizations, and inspire collaborative action. She co-hosts the Flame Tree Story podcast, curates quarterly live storytelling events, and co-hosts a monthly show on her community radio station, among other facilitation and strategic support efforts with social change organizations. Before launching Flame Tree Story, Whitney spent 20 years working in global health and violence prevention across the Middle East, East Africa, and Central Asia. Her experience includes leading participatory research in refugee settings, managing health programs during crises, and facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues with complex stakes. Whitney holds a DrPH in Executive Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and maintains academic appointments at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and Fordham University’s Institute for International Humanitarian Affairs. She is based in Carrboro, North Carolina.
