Weerakoon is a program lead at the Center for Development Research and Interventions, Sri Lanka. She is a development professional working on peacebuilding projects and programs who has experience working in non-governmental organizations for over a decade on religious freedom, inter-religious peacebuilding, pluralism, conflict mitigation, preventing violent extremism, transitional justice, language equality, social cohesion, and non-violent communication. She is a facilitator and practitioner of interfaith dialogue, a trainer on social cohesion and freedom of religion or belief (FoRB), and a researcher on preventing violent extremism and transitional justice. Kaush worked at the National Peace Council of Sri Lanka for five years as a senior project officer and a facilitator for a project on religious freedom. She is a young researcher for the EU-funded "Amplifying the Leadership of Local Youth" project. Kaush is also one of the women peacebuilders in the Women Peace Builders Network established by the International Network of Engaged Buddhists in 2022. As a fellow of the KAICIID Fellows Program, she launched two inter-faith libraries in Sri Lanka and one youth inter-religious dialogue center in Sri Lanka. She believes in promoting values of non-violence and empathy to build cohesive and peaceful communities in her country.
