Wanjira Wanjiru

Secretariat, Mathare Social Justice Centre, Kenya

Wanjira Wanjiru is a Kenyan activist and co-founder of the Mathare Social Justice Centre, a grassroots hub documenting state violence and mobilizing communities for dignity and justice. She was at the forefront of the GenZ anti-tax protests and rose to prominence during a protest in Nairobi when she resisted arrest and declared, "When we lose our fear, they lose their power" — a chant that went viral and became a rallying cry for Kenya's GenZ protests. Internationally, she authored the foreword to Oxfam's report Resisting the Rule of the Rich and was featured on Al Jazeera's Generation Change, amplifying calls for economic democracy, an end to inequality, and a socially just society. Wanjira bridges grassroots struggles with global debates, embodying a generation that refuses silence and insists on dignity for all.
