Vera Fonseca is responsible for the area of gender mainstreaming at the High Commission for Migration in Portugal, government institute responsible for the integration of migrants in the country. She has worked with the government for over 18 years in the area of migration and currently coordinates a project team on intersecting inequalities. Previously she worked as a Stakeholders and Networking team leader, in charge of the external relations of the European Institute for Gender Equality, agency responsible for this area in the 27 Member States of the EU. As a freelancer, she has worked as an expert, consultant and trainer, having dedicated some time to working with civil society organizations. Her academic background is as a Women's and Gender Studies major and a Political Science minor, having graduated from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, US.
