Suzannah Mirghani is a writer, researcher, and independent filmmaker. Her short film AL-SIT (2020, Sudan/Qatar), on Netflix Middle East, won the Canal+ Award at Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival and 6 Academy Award qualifying prizes. Suzannah's social media satire VIRTUAL VOICE (2021) premiered at Tribeca Film Festival, and her 2022 documentary about the Sudanese artist Kamala Ishag was commissioned by Serpentine Galleries. Her poem "Some Behavioral Characteristics of the Sudanese Honey Bee (Apis mellifera sudanensis)" is published in the Black SWANA issue of Mizna 23, no. 2 (2023). She is editor at the Center for International and Regional Studies, Georgetown University in Qatar; and completed an MA in museums and gallery practice at University College London-Qatar. Suzannah is working on her first feature COTTON QUEEN, a story about women in the cotton fields of Sudan. The project won the ArteKino Award at L'Atelier de la Cinefondation, Cannes Film Festival (2022).
