Sulma Arias

Sulma Arias is the executive director of People’s Action Institute. She is the first Latina and immigrant to lead this national organization and its network of affiliate groups. Arias has sparked an Organizing Revival, which includes a call to reinvent and scale the craft of community and worker effective organizing and unite the movement for social justice around the urgent tasks of defending and expanding democracy so that people can win generational victories. Sulma has been organizing on the ground with the multiracial working class in rural, suburban, and urban communities, training organizers, engaging in strategy with the people most affected by the issues, and directing powerful people’s organizations for more than 25 years. This includes leading the nationwide Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) and organizing in Kansas with Sunflower Community Action.
