SiuSue Mark was until recently the land and natural resources advisor to the Joint Peace Fund, a multi-donor fund set up to support the peace process in Myanmar, as well as a consultant on the governance of land and natural resources in development and post-conflict settings to numerous international agencies. An academic-practitioner with over 17 years of professional experience, Sue is specialized in Myanmar but has also worked in Thailand, Indonesia, Liberia, Colombia and El Salvador, and all countries dealing with active or latent armed conflict. She is broadly interested in how the politics of control over land and natural resources contribute to and reflect the forces that shape state-building, state-society relationships, equitable development, human security and human rights. She received her master's degree from Columbia University, USA, and a Ph.D. from the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, The Netherlands.
