Shurooq Amin

Artist, Curator, Activist, Mentor, Speaker, Consul
Shurooq Amin is a multidisciplinary award-winning artist and curator with a 30-year career in art. She is a pioneer in socio-political "artivism" in the region, as well as a published writer, mentor, consultant, and speaker. Shurooq was the first Kuwaiti female artist to exhibit at the Venice Biennale, the first to have her work auctioned at Christie's, and the first to challenge stereotypes of what it means to be an Arab female artist in her country. Her work pushes boundaries and explores cultural dialogues to inspire positive societal change. In early 2021, Shurooq became the first artist from Kuwait to venture into the world of NFT art. Since then, she has been actively supporting women to find their voices in Web3 and achieve autonomy as creators. Shurooq also has a Ph.D. in Ekphrasis.
