Sabrina Shumi had been a program officer for monitoring and evaluation for the UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) in Cox's Bazaar, Bangladesh, since January 2019. A humanitarian by heart and a monitoring and evaluation expert by profession, Sabrina has more than 7 years of experience in research, monitoring and evaluation with a number of international organizations including UNFPA, CARE, World Vision, and Oxfam GB in Bangladesh. She has a strong interest in working on issues related to women's empowerment, gender-based violence and gender equality, as well as sustainable development, and has written journal and conference papers about women's empowerment and gender-based violence. She received a Dutch fellowship to pursue a master's degree at the University of Twente, the Netherlands and was the recipient of a Ewha Global Empowerment Program fellowship to study gender studies in South Korea.
