Saaiqa Ebrahim

Transdisciplinary Artist, Writer, Photographer, Filmmaker, Kutti Collective, South Africa
Saaiqa Ebrahim is an transdisciplinary artist, writer and visual storyteller born and based in Durban, South Africa. Their work is often rooted within explorations about mental illness & health, the psychological landscape we traverse as we experience life, sociopolitical dynamics, identity and our species' relationship and place within the natural world; with works predominantly taking form as photography, installation and mixed media. Saaiqa is also one of six young, queer South African artists of South Asian ancestry, who form the Kutti Collective. A community increasing visibility, and transforming what representation looks like for people of colour; actively archiving our history and lives while redefining our identities even as they challenge social norms. After Saaiqa obtained a bachelor of technology in journalism at the Durban University of Technology (2013), they then pursued photography and visual art at Orms Cape Town School of Photography (2015) and later; filmmaking (majoring in directing) through a film incubator; run by the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission (2020).
