Executive Director, Health Equity Network of the Americas, Costa Rica
Rocío Sáenz, Former Minister of Health of Costa Rica and Former Executive President of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund. She has supported the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) monitoring and evaluation system, coordinated the first progress report, and was the counterpart of the projects aimed at children with UNICEF. She was also a member of the PAHO-WHO emergency and disaster response teams in Latin America and the Caribbean, emphasizing Central America. Dr. Saenz has worked as a researcher in undergraduate and graduate programs at the School of Medicine, the School of Public Health, and the School of Nursing at the University of Costa Rica and in the Public Policy Coordination of the Health, Labor, and Environment Program for Central America (SALTRA). She is currently the Executive Director of the Health Equity Network of the Americas (HENA), leads the team on integrated care in Latin America from IFIC LatAm, and the development of the Systems Thinking Accelerator (SYSTAC) initiative in the Americas.
