Peter Dixon

Associate Professor of Practice
Peter is an Associate Professor of Practice in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution at Columbia University. He is also a co-principal investigator at the peacebuilding and research NGO, Everyday Peace Indicators. He is interested in how the everyday experiences of people and organizations during and after conflict enable or limit transformative solutions toward peace and justice. Peter's research addresses issues of measurement, political violence, peacebuilding, and transitional justice, both in the United States and abroad. Currently, he is working on reparations and truth processes in Colombia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and on social justice processes in the United States. A sociologist by training, he works with interdisciplinary teams of political scientists, legal scholars, and peacebuilders, drawing on qualitative methods like focus groups and quantitative methods like population surveys. Peter holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. Peter is a Salzburg Global Fellow.
