Patricia is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Oxford, where she is widely recognized for her research on the overlooked sociological and ethical dimensions of everyday life, particularly in relation to health and medicine. Born in Kenya and raised in St. Kitts, she has been named among the UK's most influential Black academics on the Powerlist and has received multiple awards for excellence in teaching and research. Her current Wellcome Trust-funded project examines global anxieties around fakes, fabrications, and falsehoods, including fake academic work and counterfeit medicines. Patricia has published extensively in high-impact journals, guest-edited over eight special issues, and produced the podcast Genuine Fakes to explore the social meaning of fakery.
