Nirasha Piyawadani is an experienced journalist with a demonstrated history of working on stories on human rights, peace, migrant workers, gender-based myths, social issues on sexual and reproductive health rights(SRHR), media literacy, electoral systems, issues facing marginalized communities, as well as climate and environmental issues. She worked as a research assistant for the ICFJ-UNESCO Global Study: Online Violence Against Women Journalists: The study was conducted by UNESCO/International Center for Journalists and based on the testimonies of more than 850 international women journalists surveyed and interviewed by international researchers under the direction of ICFJ's research division. In addition, she is a scholarship winner of the International Visitor Leadership Programme, one of the world's premier professional exchange programs led by the United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, conducted by the Edward R Marrow Programme for journalists(Feb 2021). Furthermore, she is an influential social worker/volunteer, mentor, and public relations consultant.
