Nina is an assistant professor at the Department of Child Law and Health Law at Leiden University. In her research, she focuses on the intersection and interplay of youth justice and child protection law and (legal) issues surrounding the protection and/or punishment of children. Her PhD research (2024) analyzed the various legal instruments - based on child protection law, criminal law, and administrative law - that can be applied in reaction to signs of radicalization of children and the question to what extent the development of the child and public safety are protected while respecting the fundamental rights of the child. In her research, Nina combines traditional legal research methods and empirical legal research methods.
