Nam Kyu Kim

Nam Kyu Kim is a professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Korea University, Seoul, South Korea, where he teaches courses on comparative authoritarianism, democratization, and political development. Prior to joining Korea University, he was an associate professor at Sungkyunkwan University and an assistant professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His research examines military coups, mass protests, regime survival and political violence in authoritarian regimes. His current work examines elite purges in authoritarian regimes and democratic resilience in Northeast Asia including South Korea and Taiwan, as well as how external threats shape public attitudes. He also directs Korea University’s CAMPUS Asia program, an exchange partnership with Waseda University, Peking University, and Nanyang Technological University. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA.
