With 18 years of global experience, Monica Altamirano is a system thinker and multidisciplinary leader who has advised governments and International Financing Institutions on how to catalyse private sector investments in infrastructure, water, climate adaptation, and Nature-based Solutions. At WaterEquity, she leads the integration of climate and water resources management principles into investment decisions and the identification of policy changes to enable increased investment in water. She is passionate about making the transition to a regenerative economy financially feasible and just for developing countries. With that purpose she applies the economics of infrastructure provisioning and systems engineering to facilitate complex multiparty financing and catalyze innovative partnerships. She works with public and private sector pioneers to accelerate the uptake of a new approach for infrastructure investment planning that embodies three revolutions: understanding, planning and financing. Previously she worked as a PPP specialist for the Netherlands water institute Deltares and as advisor to the Netherlands Ministry of Infrastructure and Water. She holds a PhD in economics of infrastructures and a MSc in systems engineering, Policy Analysis and Management from TUDelft and holds currently an honorary Senior Researcher position.
