Founder and Director, MAK LAW International; former Senior Legal Officer of the United Nations and the IAEA
Mona Ali KHALIL is the Director of MAK LAW International and an Affiliate of the Harvard Law School Program on International Law and Armed Conflict. She is a former Senior Legal Officer of the United Nations and the IAEA. She has specialized expertise in peacekeeping and protection of civilians as well as sanctions, counter-terrorism and disarmament. She has appeared before the International Court of Justice; advised on the establishment of the International Criminal Court; and served on special assignments relating to Iraq, Libya and Syria. Ms. Khalil has co-authored several books, including most recently, Empowering the UN Security Council (Oxford University Press 2024); Reinvigorating the United Nations (Routledge 2024); and the UN Security Council Conflict Management Handbook (2023). She obtained her AB in Government and AM in Middle East Studies from Harvard University as well as her MS in Foreign Service and Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University.
