Mohamed Buhary is a human rights activist, advocate, and professional trainer. He serves as executive director of the Eastern Social Development Foundation. He has been working on the promotion and protection of human rights, gender equality, democratic governance, ethnic reconciliation, and peacebuilding in the post-war context of Sri Lanka since 2009. Previously, he worked as counselor at Survivors Association, line manager of the psychosocial program at CAM International and program officer for the gender-based violence (GBV) program of the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka. He is a committee member of Open Government Partnership Sri Lanka and a member of the national GBV forum and Asian regional gender hub. He has also been involved in policy and law reform and campaign activities. He has completed a degree program in sociology. In addition, he holds diplomas in human rights and democracy, psychosocial studies and counseling, English for professionals, and business communication.
