Michele Anderson

Michele Anderson is the Rural Director at Springboard for the Arts, where she leads strategy, partnerships, and programs that strengthen rural communities through arts, culture, and civic participation. Her work explores how creativity can expand democratic practice by building trust, belonging, and collective power in rural places. She has organized grassroots political campaigns for more than six years and works at the intersection of cultural organizing, community development, and rural leadership. Michele is the author of "Heartland, Heartwork: A Field Guide to Place and Possibility for Rural Leaders," developed with the Blandin Foundation to help communities lead place-based change through culture and creativity. A writer, composer, and pianist, she holds an MA in Cultural Sustainability from Goucher College, where she received the inaugural Rory Turner Prize in Cultural Sustainability. Her work imagines multiracial, multigenerational rural futures rooted in repair, stewardship, democracy, and joy. Michele is a Salzburg Global Fellow.
