Director Brussels Liaison Office, City of Vienna, Austria
Michaela Kauer has a long work experience with the City of Vienna, where she occupied different posts. Starting in 1992 in the Policy Group on Housing and Urban Renewal, Michaela moved on to the Policy Group for Women?s Rights, Integration and Consumer Protection for more than 10 years. This was followed by five years as head of cabinet of the City Councillor for Health and Social Affairs, until she became the director of the Brussels Liaison Office in 2009. They have a leading role in the city?s EU affairs with a strong focus on public services, long-term public investments, EU urban policy, affordable housing and gender equality, amongst others. I work closely with EU cities and regions networks, UNECE and other international organisations. Michaela is the joint representative of the Austrian provinces for the EU Urban Agenda. From 2016-2021 she coordinated the EU Partnership on Affordable Housing. Her academic background is with international public management and I regularly publish on urban, housing and gender policy and teach European public policy at the University of Applied Studies in Burgenland.
