Michael is a consultant for the Center for Community Investment, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Urban Institute, and Neighborhood Allies. He teaches at the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy. Michael Bodaken served as head of the National Housing Trust (NHT) from 1993 to 2018. Michael was primarily responsible for the organization's growth into an industry leader in affordable housing and “green preservation,” targeting grants and loans for energy retrofits of affordable housing. During his tenure, the Trust financed and preserved over 10,000 affordable homes nationwide, leveraging more than $1 billion in financing. NHT provides low-interest loans to affordable housing developers across the U.S. Through its affiliate NHT Communities, NHT owns and operates nearly 3000 affordable homes along the East Coast and Midwest.
