Mercedes D'Alessandro is an economist, researcher and former National Director of Economy, Equality and Gender in the Ministry of Economy of Argentina. She currently teaches Feminist Economics and is the director of the Economics program at the Metropolitan University of Education and Labor (Argentina). In 2015 she founded the NGO "Economia Feminista", and in 2016 she wrote the book "Feminist economics. How to build an egalitarian society" which is in its fifth edition in Argentina, published in Spain, Colombia and Mexico. In 2018, she was chosen as one of the most relevant intellectuals in Iberoamérica by Avina Foundation, and L'Óreal Paris selected her for a special photo exhibition of the most inspiring Argentine women. In 2019, she was recognized as a Social Entrepreneur by Ashoka Argentina. In 2021 Time magazine named her among the emerging leaders of the future for the TIME100 NEXT 2021 list.
