Chief Operations Officer, Teach for the Philippines, Philippines

Mavie Ungco is the Chief Operations Officer of Teach for the Philippines. She joined the organization in 2016 after more than a decade working in various industries such as the media, business and web and software development. As a former financial aid scholar herself, from a working class, single parent household, she is passionate about and committed to education equity, poverty reduction and social justice. In her first role in Teach for the Philippines as Director for Data and Impact Assessment, she lead the team that developed and implemented systems for programmatic monitoring and evaluation and designed and field-tested research methodology for program improvement and the replication of effective solutions across the organization. She also helped ensure that the team is trained in understanding and applying global best practices in monitoring and evaluation, data management and evidence-based strategy development. Influenced by her experience working as a documentary producer early in her career, Mavie advocates for more compelling human-centric storytelling around data- and evidence-based solutions and innovations in Education. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Communication from the Ateneo de Manila University, Manila, Philippines.
