Mark L. Wenig is a retired U.S. Foreign Service officer with the United States Dept. of State and before its consolidation, with the United States Information Agency (USIA), having served in his last posting as cultural attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo from 2014 to 2017. Mark's previous assignments, all in Public Diplomacy working in press and cultural sections, included tours in Warsaw, Poland; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Wellington, New Zealand; Leipzig, Germany; Bucharest, Romania; Port Louis, Mauritius; and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as well as in Washington, D.C., for a total of 23 years in the Foreign Service. Mark and his wife now live in Vienna, Austria, along with spending winters in Sydney, Australia, while his previous U.S. residence was in Anchorage, Alaska, where he was a television reporter before joining the Foreign Service. Mark holds a B.A. in American and International Studies from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, and his languages are French and German, along with having studied Romanian and Polish, in preparation for his assignments in those two countries. He is a Fellow of Salzburg Global and serves on the American Studies Program Advisory Committee.
