Mariam El Marakeshy
Filmmaker and Multimedia Storyteller, Educator, Re
Mariam El Marakeshy is an award-winning filmmaker, multimedia storyteller, educator, researcher, and cultural facilitator whose work spans Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the United States of America, and Asia. Her projects focus on migration, culture, the environment, education, and media ethics. She is a former United Nations (UN) staff member. Mariam has received numerous international accolades, including the Social Impact Media Award in the United States of America, the UN International Organization of Migration (IOM) Global Migration Film Award in Switzerland, the London City Film Award, the International Environmental Media Award in Canada, and the Romania Cultural Media Award. She has collaborated with organizations such as NatGeo, ITN UK, OSN, USAID, Internews, the UN, and many non-governmental organizations, producing films, multimedia projects, and impact media campaigns. Mariam is also a fellow of New America, Columbia University, Radio Netherlands, OWM United Kingdom, among others. As an educator, she works with school and university students as well as industry professionals, with her works featured in educational curricula on storytelling, migration, impact media, and multiculturalism. She is an author of the European ethical media guidelines Report Diversity, which is supported by the European Union, and a contributor to the Netherlands Platform of International Education. Mariam also developed the SuperDiverse Games, designed to build inclusive spaces for migrant children and multicultural learning environments. As a cultural expert, Mariam works with museums on storytelling and education programs and contributed to a museum glossary as an author of a publication on the concept of multiculturalism within museum spaces. Her multidisciplinary museum expertise includes a master's in World Cultures from Germany. She is a UN-accredited intercultural facilitator, working with students and professionals from diverse backgrounds on global programs aimed at enhancing cultural understanding.
