Lara Jakes is a foreign correspondent focused on the war in Ukraine and the global politics, production, military readiness and supply lines that are necessary to deliver weapons to the battlefield. She has been a diplomatic and military correspondent in Washington and a war correspondent in Iraq, and has reported and edited from more than 60 countries over the last 25 years. Lara started at The New York Times in 2017 as the Washington bureau's night editor during the first year of the Trump administration, and went on to edit foreign policy coverage before being named diplomatic correspondent in 2019. Previously, she served as managing editor for news at Foreign Policy magazine and reported for The Associated Press for more than 12 years in Washington and Baghdad, including as the bureau chief overseeing Iraq coverage. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and is currently based in Rome, where she lives with her husband and daughter.
