Mr. Krishna S. Vatsa is currently a Member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India. He has over 30 years of experience in disaster risk reduction, recovery, and public administration. Before joining NDMA, he served as Policy Advisor on Disaster Recovery with the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) at UNDP in New York and Nairobi (2015–2020). He was earlier the Regional Disaster Reduction Advisor for South and South-West Asia, based in New Delhi (2008–2014), and began his work with UNDP as Early Recovery Coordinator in the Philippines in 2007. As a career civil servant, he played a key role in the Maharashtra Emergency Earthquake Rehabilitation Programme from 1995 to 1999. He later served as Secretary, Relief and Rehabilitation (2003–2006) and Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (2006–2007) in the Government of Maharashtra. He has also consulted for various national and international agencies on disaster management and recovery. Mr. Vatsa holds a Doctor of Science degree in Disaster Risk Management from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C., and has published extensively in the field.
