Kai Brennert is the founder and director of edgeandstory, a creative studio, for data-driven insight into arts, culture, heritage, and the creative industries in the context of sustainable development. Based in Cambodia, Kai writes for the cultural policy newsletter “curious patterns.” He specializes in policy and strategy development, evaluation, and research, and has covered topics as diverse as artistic freedom, fair remuneration and working conditions for cultural workers, entrepreneurship and income diversification for arts organizations, the role of arts in sustainable development and peacebuilding, artist-activist infrastructures, and creative futuring for policy development. With more than 10 years of professional experience, he has completed consultancy assignments for the ASEAN Secretariat, the U.S. Department of State, Goethe-Institut, British Council, the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the International Labour Organization, UNESCO, GIZ as well as many grassroots cultural organizations across Asia and Europe. Kai holds degrees in arts management and cultural policy.
