Joel Naoki Ernesto Christoph is currently a Fellow at the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) School of Government based in Jakarta. He is an economist and policy researcher working at the intersection of AI governance, digital policy, and regional cooperation in Asia. Having lived and worked across Europe and Asia, including China and Southeast Asia, he brings a bridge perspective between Asian and European policy debates. He looks forward to co-developing practical collaborations within the inaugural Asia Policy Leadership Forum cohort. Joel is also a Ph.D. researcher in Economics at the European University Institute, Italy, focusing on incentive-compatible approaches to compute oversight, standards, and cross-border governance for advanced AI. Joel is a technology and human rights Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and has contributed to policy research on AI safety, semiconductor supply chains, and international crisis-management mechanisms and a Salzburg Global Fellow.
