Jason Abellaneda Baguia is a researcher, journalist, educator, and human rights advocate from Cebu City, Philippines. He is a collaborator at the Centre for Research in Communication and Culture, Faculty of Human Sciences at Universidade Catolica Portuguesa in Lisbon, Portugal. There, with a scholarship from Portugal's Foundation for Science and Technology, he is working toward a PhD in Communication Sciences with specialization in Media Narratives and Cultural Memory. His work is oriented toward promoting dialogue for peaceful coexistence and genuine human flourishing. His writings appear in Health and New Media Research, Palgrave Handbook of Global Social Problems, SAGE International Encyclopedia of Mass Media and Society, Rappler, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Cebu Daily News, and Deep Down Things. He completed special studies in international law, in media, health, and society, and in social artificial intelligence at Lunds Universitet in Lund, Sweden. Focusing on media systems and journalism across cultures, he obtained his Erasmus Mundus Master of Arts in Journalism, Media and Globalization from Aarhus Universitet, Denmark and Universitat Hamburg, Germany. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication) from the University of the Philippines Cebu in 2005.
