Gerald has been a researcher at the Institute for Peacekeeping and Conflict Management at the National Defence Academy since 2004. He specialises in conflicts in Africa, local, regional and international conflict resolution mechanisms as well as African security policy and its institutions. Gerald has completed numerous study and research stays in Tanzania, Botswana, South Africa, Ethiopia, Somaliland, Eritrea and Ghana. Since completing his studies in African Studies and Cultural and Social Anthropology at the University of Vienna, he has also continued his education in these and other subjects. He is a member of several research networks, has written numerous publications on the subject of Africa and gives lectures and courses at tertiary educational institutions in Austria and abroad.
