Geoff is a Professor at University College London (UCL) in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy (STEaPP) department, where he focuses on collective intelligence, digital governance, and institutional innovation. A former Chief Executive of Nesta (2011-2019) and head of the UK Government's Strategy Unit and Policy Office under Prime Minister Tony Blair (1997-2004), Geoff has held leadership roles across government, civil society, and academia. He is the co-founder of numerous initiatives including Demos, the Social Innovation Exchange, and the Institutional Architecture Lab (TIAL). His recent work includes advising the European Parliament, developing global AI governance frameworks, and supporting the UNDP's innovation efforts. Geoff is a prolific author of internationally acclaimed books, including Big Mind, Social Innovation, Prophets at a Tangent, and When Science Meets Power, and has given TED talks on the future economy and happiness. He serves as editor-in-chief of the journal Collective Intelligence, and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2020. He is also a Salzburg Global Fellow.
