Gelie Erika Esteban is the legal management division chief at the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Philippines. In this role, she contributes to public accountability mechanisms and the country's social protection programs in various contexts. She has seven years of experience in human rights protection and social justice promotion. In 2014, she worked for the first Philippines' state-led reparation program for martial law (1972-1986) victims of human rights violations. She got the Nippon Foundation's Asian peacebuilders scholarship to pursue graduate studies in Global Politics and International Law & Human Rights. She co-led/contributed to several peacebuilding projects - MasterPEACE: Be Masters for Peace Project (2015-2016); Amp Up Project! (2017-2018); and Emerging Women Peacebuilding Project (2020-2021). She holds a bachelor's degree in Law and Social Sciences (Economics) and has been involved in other fields: sustainable urbanization, socialized housing, good governance, youth empowerment, and teaching.
