Helin Herlbauer

Gender expert, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Austria

Helin Herlbauer is a human rights lawyer currently serving as a Gender Expert at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), where she advances gender equality within inclusive and sustainable industrial development. Her work sits at the intersection of human rights, gender, and international policy. She previously served as a Gender Specialist with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), supporting Member States in integrating gender and human rights perspectives across areas including organized crime, terrorism prevention, corruption, and trafficking in persons. She works closely with governments, law enforcement agencies, and civil society actors, providing policy advice, reviewing legislation, and delivering capacity-building initiatives for justice sector professionals across diverse contexts in Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Prior to joining the United Nations, she worked as a lawyer in Legal 500-ranked law firms and later founded her own legal practice, providing pro bono legal support to victims of gender-based violence and human rights violations. Helin is a Salzburg Global Fellow.
