Derek Tumala is a transdisciplinary artist living and working in Manila, Philippines. He founded an independent art/science initiative called STEAM/Projects in 2016, wherein he brings together art and technology practitioners to create exhibitions, workshops, conversations and collaborations on the intersection of art and science. Derek deviates his art practice by creating works that examine present conditions taking cues from futurism, science and technology. His visual approaches and conceptual derivatives convey an account of exploration, tangible experience, and sensory reflection. Derek has exhibited in Art Basel, Hong Kong; Formosa Art Fair, Taiwan; ASEAN exhibition, Dongdaemun Museum, Korea; and Galeria Bielska BWA, Poland. He received the Ateneo Award, a major art award in the Philippines. He received his B.F.A in advertising from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila in 2006.
