David Newman holds the professorial research chair in geopolitics in the department of politics and government at Ben-Gurion University in Israel. Originally from the UK, his first degree is from the University of London and his Ph.D (1981) from the University of Durham (Dunelm). David founded the department of politics and government in 1998 and served as dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences from 2010-2016. In 2013 he was awarded the OBE by the British government for promoting scientific cooperation between Israel and the UK. His research and publications focus on geopolitics and was the chief editor of the Int Journal, Geopolitics, from 1999-2014. He has published widely on the topic of borders and their conceptualization, as well as on the territorial and border dimensions of the Israel-Arab political arena.
