Dave Jones is director of the Climate Risk Initiative at UC Berkeley Law School's Center for Law, Energy and Environment (CLEE). Jones is a leader and expert on climate risk and financial regulation. He was Senior Director for Environmental Risk at The Nature Conservancy and a Distinguished Fellow with the Climate Works Foundation. Dave served as California's Insurance Commissioner from 2011 through 2018 where he regulated the sixth largest insurance market in the world and pioneered regulatory approaches addressing the financial risks of climate change. Dave was Founding Chairperson of the UN sponsored Sustainable Insurance Forum (SIF). Dave has also served in the state legislature, as a city councilmember, as senior advisor to the U.S. Attorney General, and as a legal aid lawyer providing free legal services to poor families. Dave holds degrees from DePauw University (B.A), Harvard Law School (J.D.) and Harvard's Kennedy School of Government (MPP).
