Chayanit Poonyarat is a lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University. Chayanit's research interests include conflict and violence, nationalism, and nation-building. She has extensively researched and worked in secessionist-violence-prone Thailand's southern border provinces for over two decades. Chayanit is currently appointed as the Secretary of Thailand's National Assembly's Sub-committee on Public Participation Promotion in the Peace Process of the Southern Border Provinces. She is actively involved in the youth-led pro-democracy movement in Thailand (2020-2023). Her latest research is titled 'Tango with State Oppression: The Paradox of Repression and Pro-Democracy Movement in Thailand (2020-2021),' which was recently presented at the Association for Asian Studies Annual Conference in Seattle, USA (March 2024).
