Charles is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Educator Academy (EA), a teacher preparation and development organization that seeks to increase the number of classrooms that have highly effective teachers who are driving toward transformative outcomes for students. Since he founded the organization, The EA has prepared more than 200 new teachers and has provided professional development to another 500 teachers in the communities where the EA serves. Charles' commitment to ensuring that all students can make transformative outcomes in classrooms was evident in his time as principal at KIPP Spirit College Preparatory, a public charter school that is a part of the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP) national network of schools, in Houston, Texas. He began his career in education as a teacher through Teach For America in Houston, Texas. Charles earned an M.Ed. in Education Administration from Houston Baptist University and a B.A. in Political Science from Morehouse College. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Kansas, where his dissertation is focused on the experience of Black and Latinx preservice teachers in teacher residency programs.
