Charles Holmes, MD, MPH is Prof. and Director of the Center for Innovation in Global Health, Georgetown University, and Senior Adviser to the CEO of the Gates Medical Research Institute. He is a physician who has held senior global health leadership roles in government, academia, and non-governmental organizations. He served as Chief Medical Officer and Deputy U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator for the PEPFAR program in the U.S. Department of State during the Obama administration. In this role he led numerous U.S. government policy processes to accelerate investments in evidence-based interventions and developed partnerships with development banks, multilateral organizations, governments and civil society organizations. He subsequently became CEO of the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ), supporting the Government of the Republic of Zambia to expand health services, introduce new vaccines and medicines and develop training pathways for Zambian trainees and health leaders.
