Carmen is an award-winning civil and human rights leader and Chicana feminist with over 25 years of experience advocating for social justice. As the President & CEO of The Gathering for Justice, she continues her mentor Harry Belafonte's legacy of promoting peace and alternatives to incarceration. Carmen co-founded Justice League NYC and Justice League CA, leading significant mobilizations like the March 2 Justice and the March for Stolen Lives & Looted Dreams. Her work spans racial justice, Black and Brown solidarity, and gender equity, including campaigns such as Free Meek Mill and Take a Knee with Colin Kaepernick. Carmen also co-chaired the historic Women's March on Washington, which mobilized millions globally, and co-founded Poderistas, amplifying Latina voices. Her accolades include being named one of TIME's 100 Most Influential People and receiving the keys to her hometown of Oxnard, CA. Above all, she cherishes her role as a mother of two.
