Budi Hernawan, an anthropologist and philosopher is Senior Lecturer at Driyarkara School of Philosophy in Jakarta. His scholarship focuses on the phenomenon of violence, especially torture, and its impacts on civilian population in a fragile context in the Asia-Pacific, and it explores the spectrum of regulatory framework to address the violence in the long run.He has published numerous books, articles, book chapters on his scholarship in national and international outlets, including Torture and Peacebuilding in Indonesia: The case of Papua. He has extensive experience working in Papua at the Justice and Peace Commission of the Diocese of Jayapura, as well as at the international level with international human rights and humanitarian organizations, such as Franciscans International and the International Committee of the Red Cross.He received a BA in Philosophy from the Driyarkara School of Philosophy in Jakarta and an MA in Applied Anthropology and Participatory Development as well as a PhD from The Australian National University in Canberra.
