Boriana Treadwell has been a journalist since her sophomore year of college in her native Bulgaria in the early 1990s. She started her career in print, and transitioned to broadcast when she joined CNN as an intern in 1998. Treadwell worked for CNN until 2014 as a producer, writer, and assignment editor. She covered hundreds of stories including 9/11, numerous hurricanes, quakes, and other natural disasters, the 2011 Egypt Revolution, the creation of social media, to just name a few. For her work, Treadwell won multiple Emmy, Peabody, Murrow, DuPont, and other journalism awards. In 2014, she transitioned to full-time teaching and became a professor of broadcast journalism at the University of Miami. Treadwell teaches classes in writing, producing, and reporting for broadcast. She is also a faculty adviser for the award-winning college TV station, UMTV, where she advises the weekly live news show, NewsVision, as well as any special productions.
